Kirby, Texas. Kirby Texas is located eight miles from the downtown San Antonio area in eastern Bexar County. Kirby is known for the beautiful small town area in which it is a part of. As it is a smaller town, they share a zip code with San Antonio, which means they also share demographics.
It became a station on the San Antonio Railway in 1877. In 1900 the settlement had a cotton gin, a blacksmith shop, and a population of 100. A post office operated at the site from 1907 to 1916, when service was discontinued and the mail sent to Converse.
At the time of incorporation, the population increased to 680. This was in 1965. Since that time the Kirby has grown rapidly, swelled by the growth of nearby San Antonio and Converse, and has since reported a population over 8,000.
